Pontfadog in the Ceiriog Valley

Pontfadog is a small village in between Chirk and Glyn Ceiriog. The 'Bridge of Madoc' from which the village takes its name, lies just behind the War Memorial. It is a fine, high arch over the swiftly flowing River Ceiriog.

In the village there is a good and very friendly PO and general store, a fine Inn, a helpful garage and the Tramway museum waiting room. All are well worth a visit.

In Pontfadog lives the oldest oak tree in Britain which was spared when King Henry II had his men cut down the Ceiriog Woods in 1165. Fortunately the woods recovered, as they have done since being permanently covered in dust from the quarrying of the 19th century.
